Eggology Hardboiled Eggs Featured in Health Magazine

Did you know that Eggology is not just an egg white company? Eggology also has products such as Cool Cravings, a higher protein ice cream, and Nortons Naturals, protein snacks for our four-legged friends, and in March 2008 launched a new line of all natural hardboiled eggs! These hardboiled eggs became available in 2-packs at many of your favorite grocery and specialty stores. Vacuum-packed, they are already-peeled and come with a packet of salt and pepper.

Eggology is pleased to announce that the Hardboiled Egg 2-packs were selected by Health magazine as Best in Food in their Breakfast Category in the June 2009 issue. Health magazine declares:
For a lean, no-fuss breakfast, help yourself to an Eggology hard-boiled egg from the fridge – no cooking or peeling required. Each egg has 70 calories, 4 grams of fat and 6 grams of protein, and comes with salt and pepper
packets for quick seasoning. They taste really fresh, too

Thanks Health magazine! We couldn't agree more!

Enjoy Your Egg Whites to the Max!

I am a fan of the popular TV show Dancing with the Stars. There! I said it for all of you to read. Last night I was elated to see Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson snag first place! She was great and it's hard to imagine that she is not even a legal adult (at 17 years old). Hooray for her! Reflecting on her gymnastics career, the drive she must have in her is admirable. Gymnasts are lean and muscular all at the same time and can do multiple somersaults in the air just with a running start. Curious, even though I knew the answer before my Google results popped up, I googled "gymnast nutrition egg white" and saw that the answer confirmed what I knew already. Many gymnasts stick to a lean, high protein, low carb nutrition plan and multiple sites and forums all suggested eating egg whites for one or more meals per day.

Eggology egg whites provide a convenient, easy and fresh way to get your dose of liquid egg whites every day! Here are some tips for you to enjoy your Eggology egg whites to their maximum!

  • Shake well - Gravity pulls the heavier part of the egg white to the bottom, leaving the watery part on top which will result in a foam-like consistency so shake it baby! Shaking the bottle serves the same purpose as beating an egg. Shake the bottle, even if you plan to whip the egg whites. You will also notice that your omelets will be more fluffy by doing so.

  • Omelets - When making an omelet, coat the pan with either a non-stick spray or olive oil. Always preheat the pan prior to pouring the egg whites – they will cook better!

  • Drinking Raw - Eggology egg whites are completely safe to drink raw, as it has been salmonella tested. For best assimilation of protein, always shake the bottle first. If you plan to make a protein drink, then it is best to stir or blend the drink for best protein absorption.

  • Whipping - Shake the bottle prior to pouring contents. Allow the egg whites to come up almost to room temperature, then whip to your heart's content.

  • Easiest Egg White Sandwich Ever - Pour ¾ an inch high of Eggology egg whites into rounded Tupperware type container that is the size of a piece of bread. Set the container lid on top, leaving space for air (do not affix lid). Cook in microwave for 75 seconds. View the now hardened egg white patty, and cook more if still watery. The egg white patty will pop right out, but use a spatula if necessary. *For the size of a muffin, use a coffee cup (no lid is necessary).

How do you enjoy your Eggology egg whites? We are always looking for recipes to share so email us or comment below!

Looking for a Leaner Body? Advice for Beginners Looking for Weightloss

In southern California, where I am located, the motivation to stay lean and fit is present everywhere! All I have to do is look around. When I take my child to school or when I am at the beach or out to dinner, I just have to look around to stay motivated to keep up with my own fitness program because almost everyone looks great! We are a beach town with mild weather year round and mountains nearby with great hiking trails which encourages people to get out and exercise (even if it is as simple as a leisurely walk after dinner).

And, of course, even in this town, there are people who are less motivated - or who have fallen into a rut and cannot seem to pull themselves out of it. Well, I am here to offer help!

One of my favorite go-to sites for all things having to do with fitness is Bodybuilding.com. Bodybuilding.com states that their mission is: "To help our visitors reach their health, fitness and appearance goals through information, motivation and supplementation." Bodybuilding.com features over 25,000 pages of fitness information, has a community of over 230,000 members to support you and keep you motivated, and has a store with 8,500 products (and super fast shipping!). If you haven't been there - then you need to go!

Wait! Before you start surfing Bodybuilding.com's site, keep reading for tips on beginning your own weight loss program. This is from Bodybuilding.com's article Beginner's Fatloss Program!

A simple program that's easy to follow! Here is a synopsis of their tips:
  • Set your goal!

  • Find what motivates you.
  • Re-evaluate your nutrition program! I love that they suggest starting slow - not going straight to chicken breasts, Eggology egg whites and protein shakes. Keep track of your calories and become more aware of your caloric intake and the quality of food (read the ingredients!).

  • After about two weeks, educate yourself on carbs, dietary proteins and fats!

  • Research supplements. Do you take a multivitamin? Interested in protein powder or fish oil? Are these for you and how will the benefit your body?

  • Don't forget the part about working out! Full body workout three days per week plus another two to three days of cardio and strength training.

  • Don't let your cardio stagnate. After a few weeks look into intervals and more!

  • After about three months - Congratulations! You are on it! Now take your training to the next level!

Read the whole article here, including cool videos and two full body workout programs! Thanks Bodybuilding.com!

Eco-Friendly Reynold's Wrap!

The days are getting longer and the weather has been amazingly beautiful lately! This combination means that my family spends more and more time on the run and we need easy to transport snacks! One of my favorites is the Fruit and Oatmeal bar snack that we introduced to you last August. My family goes through these like there's no tomorrow!

In an effort to keep ahead of the demand, I have been making double batches and freezing a portion of the bars-they freeze really well! One of our readers had asked our Eggspert which items freeze the best-and this is a perfect candidate. All you need to do is wrap the uncut bars in plastic wrap AND foil and they will taste as fresh as if you made them that day! All the foil is good for protecting the bars, but not good for the environment!

As I was looking for new recipe ideas, I was eggsploring Mary Audet's blog, author of BakingDelights.com and Eggology Egg Whites endorser, and discovered the answer to my dilemma - 100% Recycled Foil from Reynold's Wrap! I was excited to find a way to have my bars on hand at all times AND be nice to Mother Earth! Mary says the recycled foil works just as well as the real stuff! If you want to find out how they make eco-friendly foil, read more on Mary's blog. Thanks for the tip, Mary!

Eggology Shares Eco Deeds You Can Start Doing Today!

Happy Earth Day from Eggology fresh organic egg whites!

We at Eggology are happy to share these suggestions that we complied through resources such as Earth 911, Treehugger and Ecology Fund to help us be more mindful of our beautiful planet and keep money in our wallets. Start today to make a difference today, tomorrow and beyond!

1. Create a Non Toxic Environment in Your Home
Your pets and family will appreciate living in a non-toxic environment. Gather up all products in your house or garage that contain unsafe chemicals and drop off at your local hazardous waste facility or attend a hazardous waste (HHW) event if available in your community. Examples of what needs to be disposed of at a hazardous waste facility:
  • Paint
  • Solvents
  • Batteries
  • Automotive Products such as Motor Oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid
  • Household cleaners such as rug cleaners, oven cleaner and drain cleaner
  • Kerosene
  • Pesticides such as weed killer, flea products and insect killer

2. When Possible, Bike, Walk or Utilize Public Transportation
With the increasing number of commuters across the US, cars are largely responsible for creating one of the largest carbon footprints of all transportation. Utilize public transportation, carpool, or bike: your wallet and waistline will thank you!

3. Conserve Energy By Upgrading to Energy-Efficient Lighting Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs)
Initially, these bulbs may cost more than incandescent bulbs, but they also last up to 10 times longer. CFLs can substitute incandescent in just about any light fixture in your home.
*Recycle CFLs when they finally do run out to keep the mercury content out of landfills.

4. Reduce Waste
Simple choices we make each day can have a massive impact on the well being of our planet by reducing the need to create waste and filling our landfills.

  • When eating out or purchasing take out, request not to receive any unnecessary plastic utensils, straws, etc.

  • Buy products in bulk and/or contain the least amount of packaging. Avoiding convenience foods will save money and greatly reduce the amount of wasteful trash produced by your household.

  • Replace paper napkins and towels with cloth napkins. Store used napkins or towels in a small container in your kitchen and just wash and reuse as needed.

  • Print documents only when necessary, print on once-used paper and/or bleach-free, recycled paper with the highest post-consumer waste content available.

  • Check with your service and utility companies to request going to paperless billing. Most bills can be paid online, and you will save quite a bit of money in postage stamps!

  • Reuse paper you would otherwise toss by converting them into scratch pads.

  • Invest in a quality lunchbox with reusable containers to carry your lunch.

  • Invest in re-usable shopping bags.

5. Conserve water
Did you know that only 3% of the earth's water is freshwater? In addition, water-related energy consumes a large amount of energy. Here are some tips to protect this precious and critical resource and save yourself money:

  • Choose to water your lawn in the evenings when the air is cooler (never in mid day) to minimize evaporation. Let grass grow longer and plant native or drought-tolerant garden plants.

  • Avoid letting faucets run. Don't let the water run when brushing your teeth, shaving, etc. Instead of letting the water run while cleaning your veggies rinse them in a pot with water.

  • Limit your shower time. A one or two minute reduction can save you 700 gallons! Better yet, install a low-flow shower head to reduce the amount of water used.

6. Teach Your Children
Be an example to your child by adapting eco friendly, sustainable habits into your daily routine. Teach them the importance of preserving our planet so they will continue this movement in the future. Plant a tree with a child and teach them to appreciate nature by hiking and walking in the woods. This tip is the most important thing we can do to protect the future of our planet and humanity.

“Buff Dad” Stays Fit and Eats Eggology Egg Whites

Mike Levinson, R.D., the author of “BUFF DAD: The 4-Week Fitness Game Plan for Real Guys” describes “Dad fat” as “the extra weight and responsibility of fatherhood converted into body mass. Also known as blubber; dreaded spare-tire gut. See also chubby hubby”. After Levinson became a father, he amassed “Dad fat” which inspired him to write the book “BUFF DAD” geared at helping dads lose their spare tire and, equally important, keeping it off.

Along with a do-at-home exercise program, Levinson, a Registered Dietitian, suggests setting a meal routine – including eating the same thing day after day. One of Levinson’s staples is egg whites and he uses Eggology fresh liquid egg whites because they are a pure source of protein.

Recently featured in a news clip on CBS night time news, Levinson was shown cooking his egg white omelet made with Eggology egg whites.

“As a dad and athlete myself, I can fully identify with Mike’s need to manage his weight, his job and his family. It’s a very precise balancing act that takes time to calibrate perfectly,” said Brad Halpern, founder of Eggology. “And Mike’s book is an incredible guide to helping dads jump start, or re-start, their exercise and diet routine which includes consumption of egg whites – because Eggology egg whites are a lean and natural source of protein with little calories, no fat and no cholesterol.”

Halpern saw the value of egg whites 15 years ago when he was a competitive athlete. Creating a product that was natural, convenient and easy – unlike other egg white products available at the time which contained additives such as chemicals, gums and coloring – Eggology – now the leader in the all-natural egg white industry - gained popularity among bodybuilders and athletes and has grown into other markets such as the hotel industry, restaurants, pastry chefs and households.

“Having Eggology promoted by Mike Levinson makes me feel very proud,” said Halpern. “Since Levinson - as an athlete, a nutritionist and a father - represents many of the people that Eggology egg whites are made for.”

Oprah Learns How to Live Longer!

Oprah recently interviewed David Murdock, an 85 year old man that can do 50 push-ups without a break and has the blood pressure of a teenager. He says his secret to being healthy, never taking as much as an aspirin and avoiding the flu and even the common cold for the past 20 years is his diet! What's his secret? He eats tons of fruits and vegetables and never eats saturated fats.

For breakfast, he eats natural oatmeal with berries. Lunch consists of lots of veggies in an egg white omelet, such as Eggology's Spinach Egg White Omelet. Dinner includes more veggies, along with a nice piece of fish. He also drinks fruit and vegetable smoothies throughout the day. I agree with Oprah, the smoothie doesn't LOOK great, but I'm sure it is yummy-not to mention the health benefits of eating well!

I'm off to Costco to stock up on David's Diet Recommendations - if I can avoid the dreaded cold and flu, not to mention feeling great at 85, I think I can sacrifice the saturated fats! Happy Eating!

Eggology Egg White Recipe of the Day: Starbucks Chocolate Meringue Drops

Eggology egg whites were featured in a recipe on an interesting blog. It's all about "Top Secret Restaurant Recipes" and features supposedly top secret recipes from lots of famous restaurants and stores. We can't vouch for whether or not this is the actual recipe that Starbucks uses for their chocolate meringue drops, but we like that they suggest using Eggology egg whites to make them! Eggology egg whites are naturally sweetened and would enhance any meringue recipe - top secret or not!

CHOCOLATE MERINGUE DROPS (supposedly Starbucks recipe)

WHAT YOU NEED
1/3 cup egg whites = (or 1/3 cup Eggology liquid egg whites)
1/2 cup white sugar
6 ounces semi sweet chocolate chips - (3/4 cup)
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup chopped walnuts - (generous)

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place rack in lower third of oven.

Cover two large baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a small metal bowl, beat egg whites, adding sugar slowly, until the whites are stiff but not dry. Using a rubber spatula, carefully stir in melted chocolate, vanilla, almond extract and chopped nuts into egg whites.

Drop spoonfuls of batter -- about 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons -- onto the parchment lined baking sheets.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until tops are completely dry. Do not overbake. Cool completely in pan before removing with a spatula.
This recipe yields 12 to 18 cookies.

Eggology Supports Earth Day: We Invite You to Get Involved & Win Egg Whites!

Earth day is just a month away! For the 39th year, we will come together to celebrate the Earth on April 22nd.

It truly is remarkable to think about how far we have come in protecting our health and safeguarding the environment! The government's Environmental Protective Agency (EPA) has pulled together facts on our Environmental Progress. Below are some of the impressive highlights from that list:

  • 1970 - 20 million people around the globe celebrate the first Earth Day; President Richard Nixon creates the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)
  • 1972 - Clean Water Act: limits raw sewage and other pollutants flowing into rivers, lakes and streams
  • 1974 - Safe Drinking Water Act: allows EPA to regulate the quality of public drinking water
  • 1977 - Clean Air Act Amendments: strengthen air quality standards and protect human health
  • 1978 - The government bans chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) as propellants in aerosol cans because CFCs destroy the ozone layer
  • 1987 - The United States signs the Montreal Protocol, pledging to phase-out production of CFCs
  • 1988 - Congress bans ocean dumping of sewage sludge and industrial waste
  • 1990 - President George Bush signs the Pollution Prevention Act: emphasizing the importance of preventing—not just correcting—environmental damage
  • 1991 - Federal agencies begin using recycled content products
  • 1993 - President Bill Clinton directs the federal government to use its $200 billion annual purchasing power to buy recycled and environmentally preferable products
  • 1996 - Food Quality Protection Act: tightens standards for pesticides used to grow food, with special protections to ensure that foods are safe for children to eat
  • 1997 - EPA issues tough new air quality standards for smog and soot, an action that would improve air quality for 125 million Americans
  • 2000 - EPA establishes regulations requiring more than 90 percent cleaner heavy duty highway diesel engines and fuel
  • 2003 - Healthy Forests Restoration Act: helping to prevent forest fires and safeguard and preserve the nation’s forests
  • 2006 - WaterSense is launched to raise awareness about the importance of water efficiency, ensure the performance of water-efficient products and provide good consumer information

Support of Earth Day is the driving force behind these Acts that preserve, clean-up and protect our mother Earth. You can do something as simple as practicing recycling in your home, and teaching about it to your children. No act is too small.

Which is why Eggology feels it is important recognize some everyday (and maybe not-so-everyday) eco-friendly deeds done by you!
