• 1990 - President George Bush signs the Pollution Prevention Act: emphasizing the importance of preventing—not just correcting—environmental damage

• 1993 - President Bill Clinton directs the federal government to use its $200 billion annual purchasing power to buy recycled and environmentally preferable products
• 1996 - Food Quality Protection Act: tightens standards for pesticides used to grow food, with special protections to ensure that foods are safe for children to eat
• 1997 - EPA issues tough new air quality standards for smog and soot, an action that would improve air quality for 125 million Americans
• 2000 - EPA establishes regulations requiring more than 90 percent cleaner heavy duty highway diesel engines and fuel
• 2003 - Healthy Forests Restoration Act: helping to prevent forest fires and safeguard and preserve the nation’s forests
• 2006 - WaterSense is launched to raise awareness about the importance of water efficiency, ensure the performance of water-efficient products and provide good consumer information

This holiday time of year prompts many to think of the past, of the present, and of the future. Googling the word "Eggology" today, I ran across an article that was titled Incredibly edible - trends - Eggology Liquid Egg Whites and was featured in Vegetarian Times, June 2003. The article goes on to describe how the author met the Chief Eggsecutive of Eggology who introduced her to Eggology and it's egg white product.

What I found interesting was that the title contained the word "trend". According to an online dictionary, a trend is defined as the general direction in which something tends to move or, more loosely, current style; vogue. Obviously I cannot speak for the author of the article however I can see how she may have assumed that egg whites would just be another trend ... a passing fancy, like the many different diets that find their way in and out of our society.

It's been five years since the article was written and we can tell you that Eggology egg whites are here to stay. Egg White Puns: Eggscruciating or Eggsilarating?

Being a Scrabble fan, I love words, and playing with them too! And being an Eggology egg white fan has upped my fascination with puns. It seems like anything beginning with "e-", easily becomes a target. For eggxample (see I just did it there), I often say that Eggology egg whites are eggcellent and eggciting! Every time I come up with a new word beginning with "egg-", I feel eggsilerated, and that's no yolk! Okay, okay, I'll stop!

The point of this article is that I recently discovered that I am not the only one who does this (audible sigh, of relief)! "Your health is your wealth" my mother has said time and time again. Reading about home foreclosures and possibly an impending recession got me thinking about how true that statement really is. You have to be healthy to survive because it's hard to hold down a full time job if you are sick. Which reminds me of the old adage "you are what you eat". More and more evidence is surfacing to support that statement. And one way to ward off everyday colds, the flu, and even more serious illnesses is to eat healthy. Skip the fast foods. Concentrate on veggies, green tea, lean protein. Eggology Egg Whites Cultural Piece: The Yin and Yang of Yolks and Whites

In the first ever Cultural Piece by Eggology, we will be comparing the egg as a whole and as separates to the ancient Chinese philosophy of yin and yang. According to Wikipedia, yin and yang "are generalized descriptions of the antitheses or mutual correlations in human perceptions of phenomena in the natural world, combining to create a unity of opposites". In essence, two opposites that compliment each other. Similar to the egg white and the egg yolk.

Upon further research (okay, scanning down the Wikipedia page), we come to find that there are four laws of Yin-yang (all definitions provided by Wikipedia, examples provided by Eggology):

1. Yin-yang are Opposing: Yin and yang describe the polar effects of phenomena. In viewing any one phenomenon (or the comparison of two phenomena), yin and yang describe the opposing qualities inherent in it. For instance, egg white and yolk would be the yin and yang, respectively, of the egg.


2. Yin-yang are Mutually Rooted: Yin and yang are two complementary qualities. That is to say, the yin and the yang aspect of any one phenomenon will, when put together, form the entire phenomenon. Yin-yang is a philosophy of duality. This is the reason the Chinese word has no "and" between yin and yang - the term always expresses the two making up the one. In the example above, egg white plus yolk makes up the whole egg.


3. Yin-yang Mutually Transform: The maximum effect of one quality will be followed by the transition toward the opposing quality. In other words, once the maximum Yang aspect has manifest, such as the egg whites becoming one without a yolk, this will be followed by the transition toward the Yin aspect, by placing the yolks with each other for company.


4. Yin-yang Mutually Wax and Wane: As one aspect declines, the other increases to an equal degree. For instance, as the egg whites join the Eggology family, the yolks venture onward to join salad dressing and ice cream families.
