Great Pre-Workout Snacks - Eggology Egg Whites!
When you are training for a marathon, it is normal to load up on carbs, because you want the fuel to help get you through the race or a difficult long, training day. MarathonPal.com gives a great breakdown of WHY you need carbs and you can check it out in full, but the short version is this: "The goal of carbohydrate loading is to super load muscles with glycogen to delay fatigue and enable your to maintain high intensity exercise for longer. When competing for over 90 minutes normal glycogen stores will not be enough to maintain exercise. Carbohydrate loading is a method of increasing stored glycogen by 200-300%, thereby allowing the athlete to delay fatigue and maintain high intensity exercise for longer. Carbohydrate loading is of no benefit for sports of short duration, and is undesirable in sports with strict weight criteria."
The last line answers my friends question! Most bodybuilders are not doing high intensity exercise. Ideally, the amino acids from a pre-workout meal that's high in protein will be hitting the muscle cells at the conclusion of your workout, thus providing ample resources for muscle growth and repair. You'll also feel stronger in the gym, since protein and fat remain in your stomach longer. That being said, you can't totally skip the carbs either! Protein and unsaturated fat may be "king" when it comes to building muscle, but complex carbs have an important supporting role. By eating my breakfast of Eggology On-the-Go (which provides 4 scrambled egg whites in 95 seconds) and combining that with one slice of whole wheat toast, 45 to 90 minutes before hitting the gym, I'm ready for a great workout. And if you don't believe that this works, check out Ronnie Coleman - who uses Eggology Egg Whites as part of his daily diet routine! I think a picture is worth a thousand words!

Looking ripped requires more than just lifting weights. In the latest X-Men movie, Hugh Jackman showed off his muscular build and shared some of the body building tricks that transformed him into "Wolverine."Forty-year-old Hugh Jackman revealed that his exercise routine in preparation for the movie involved a lot of bodybuilding and strategic dieting.
"What I realized is that how you look is 30 percent how you train and 70 percent how you eat", said Jackman, "it means waking up at 4 a.m. and eating egg whites, and then every three hours after that eating chicken or salmon, boringly steamed with vegetables and brown rice. Then no more carbohydrates after lunch and 4,000 calories in total,” he added.

Eggology Egg Whites Are Part of Body Builder Ronnie Coleman’s Training Routine
---------------
Body builders know that building muscle is not just a matter of pumping iron at the gym. Nutrition also plays a crucial role in developing a winning physique. Eggology egg whites – the leader in the all-natural liquid egg white industry – have become an essential part of body builder Ronnie Coleman’s routine because they are a convenient, lean source of protein.Ronnie Coleman, eight time winner of Mr. Olympia, was recently featured in an interview in BodyBuilding.com speaking about his past 31 years of training and working his body to near physical perfection driven by his dream of achieving. Speaking candidly about his intense training, overcoming hurdles such as a severe back injury and how cleaning up his diet all contributed to enabling him to win the Olympia title.
Mr. Coleman cut out junk food, increased his proteins and lowered carbohydrates during his pre-contest phase. Eggology egg whites became part of his nutrition routine – he and his wife, a personal trainer, enjoy them every day as one of their lean, pure sources of protein.
Brad Halpern, founder of Eggology, agrees with Mr. Coleman’s nutrition choices wholeheartedly. “Eggology was originally founded by an athlete, for athletes. We knew the incredible value of egg whites as the only pure protein food available. In addition to that, we make sure, through USDA inspection, that Eggology liquid egg whites are safe to enjoy raw as many body builders like to drink them straight or add them to shakes.” As demonstrated by Mr. Coleman, a hard workout regimen is only part of the climb to physical perfection – the other part is what is in your nutrition regimen – and being smart about both of those is when you will hit your peak.

“Buff Dad” Stays Fit and Eats Eggology Egg Whites
Mike Levinson, R.D., the author of “BUFF DAD: The 4-Week Fitness Game Plan for Real Guys” describes “Dad fat” as “the extra weight and responsibility of fatherhood converted into body mass. Also known as blubber; dreaded spare-tire gut. See also chubby hubby”. After Levinson became a father, he amassed “Dad fat” which inspired him to write the book “BUFF DAD” geared at helping dads lose their spare tire and, equally important, keeping it off.Along with a do-at-home exercise program, Levinson, a Registered Dietitian, suggests setting a meal routine – including eating the same thing day after day. One of Levinson’s staples is egg whites and he uses Eggology fresh liquid egg whites because they are a pure source of protein.
Recently featured in a news clip on CBS night time news, Levinson was shown cooking his egg white omelet made with Eggology egg whites.
“As a dad and athlete myself, I can fully identify with Mike’s need to manage his weight, his job and his family. It’s a very precise balancing act that takes time to calibrate perfectly,” said Brad Halpern, founder of Eggology. “And Mike’s book is an incredible guide to helping dads jump start, or re-start, their exercise and diet routine which includes consumption of egg whites – because Eggology egg whites are a lean and natural source of protein with little calories, no fat and no cholesterol.”
Halpern saw the value of egg whites 15 years ago when he was a competitive athlete. Creating a product that was natural, convenient and easy – unlike other egg white products available at the time which contained additives such as chemicals, gums and coloring – Eggology – now the leader in the all-natural egg white industry - gained popularity among bodybuilders and athletes and has grown into other markets such as the hotel industry, restaurants, pastry chefs and households.
“Having Eggology promoted by Mike Levinson makes me feel very proud,” said Halpern. “Since Levinson - as an athlete, a nutritionist and a father - represents many of the people that Eggology egg whites are made for.”

Take a Little Out of the Middle!
The battle of the bulge is something that many of us struggle with. I was reading an article today on the dangers of belly fat and thought it was worth sharing!Studies show that having a little extra fat around the middle " increases your risk of heart disease, hypertension, cancer and dementia. Not only that, women whose waists are bigger than 35 inches are more than twice as likely to die of heart disease than women whose middles measure less than 28 inches, according to research from the National Institutes of Health. And a waist that's more than 32 inches ups your risk of diabetes, experts say."
Wow...I always thought a little extra padding wasn't that big of a deal! So how can you win the battle and decrease your health risks? It's actually EASY! " Cut just 100 calories a day. That's all you need to ditch to beat belly bulge, says Mehmet Oz, M.D., author of "YOU on a Diet: The Owner's Manual for Waist Management." Dropping this amount from your daily intake -- we're talking one cookie, a soda or a glass of wine -- will help you lose about 12 pounds a year. And it's a cinch to stick to a plan that requires no actual dieting or deprivation."
100 Calories a day? That sounds so simple! Other tips they give for keeping things in check are:
- Running 2-4 times a week for 30 to 60 minutes
- Eat good for you foods-veggies, fruits, fish, low-fat dairy and whole grains
- Eat a high protein breakfast, such as Eggology Egg Whites, ""An egg-white omelet is a good choice," says Louis Aronne, M.D., a clinical professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and director of the weight-control program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.
- Don't skip meals
- Minimize stress
- Get your ZZZZZZ's-sleep is important!
- MOVE-take frequent breaks from sitting-get up and walk around (just don't walk to the fridge!)

Best Bets for Better Nutrition!
We are always looking for easy ways to incorporate flavor, while adding additional nutritional value to our meals. Veggies are the obvious choice, but do you know which ones provide the best bang for your buck? You can add extra Vitamin C by adding bell peppers, bok choy, cabbage (red or green), cauliflower or broccoli to Eggology scrambled egg whites. All these veggies contain at least double our daily needs per serving. By adding any of these veggies to your meal, you boost your immune system and help out your cardiovascular system as well as adrenal functions!
Want to add potassium? A lot of people turn to a banana - but did you know that by eating bok choy, eggplant, potatoes, zucchini or spinach that you can get 100+milligrams MORE potassium than the banana? That's right-all these vegetables contain 500+ milligrams of potassium per serving. This helps regulate your blood pressure, anxiety and is used to treat muscle cramps!
How about adding some jicama, unpeeled eggplant, cabbage or squash or even braving the brussel sprouts to add 5 or more grams of fiber, per serving, to your diet. Fiber is responsible for lowering cholesterol, weight loss management and the most obvious, helping things move through your system.
Need more calcium for strong bones? Bok choy, collard greens, kale, spinach and mustard greens can all help with that-and if cooked properly, taste way better than getting your calcium from TUMS!
All of these veggies are great with an Egg White Scramble or with a stir fry, using brown rice and egg whites to make a healthier fried rice. Looking for other great ways to incorporate these into your diet? Check out our recipes for some great ideas for nutritional and delicious meals.

Good Riddance to the Love Handles!
We have entered the 2nd month of 2009 and that means a couple of things. First, it means that if you are still adhering to your New Years Resolution to eat better and work out you are doing great! Experts say it only takes 28 days to form a habit-so you are well on your way to a great foundation for healthy eating and exercising!I came across this great fitness blog on military.com and I couldn't help but start reading the posts by one contributor, more specifically, Stew Smith. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, a former Navy SEAL, and author of several fitness and self defense books such as The Complete Guide to Navy SEAL Fitness, and Maximum Fitness. As a military fitness trainer, Stew has trained hundreds of students for Navy SEAL, Special Forces, Air Force PJ, Ranger Training, and other physical law enforcement professions. Who better to take fitness advice from than him!
In a post entitled Lose the Love Handles, he outlines ways to get rid of the little something extra around the middle!
Here are the three areas of concentration:
1) Healthy Diet (to build energy and burn fat);
2) Cardio-vascular and resistance training (to burn fat and build muscle), and;
3) Targeted Abdominal exercises (to help firm the muscles under the fatty area)
Check out the rest of Stew's post to get detailed info on the workout to achieve the results you are looking for, not to mention a great breakdown of lean meal options to help with the healthy diet! He uses tons of egg whites for protein, so there are ample opportunities to benefit from the ONLY choice for liquid egg whites, Eggology!
Thanks Stew for the wonderful work out suggestions and we look forward to reading many more!

Super Model Iman Eats Egg Whites
Some super models may be genetically blessed with the ability to eat anything and still look fabulous while others may have to work a little (or a lot) at maintaining that willowy, thin, yet toned body that is demanded of them in this fast moving world fashion world. Super model Iman, who for the record is looking fabulous at 53, shared with a reporter her own diet which we are proud to say included "egg white omelets with feta cheese and spinach and whole wheat toast for breakfast, protein shakes as a snack and chicken or salmon for lunch" and for "Dinner I will have whatever I want".Iman is on the right track for maintaining, or losing, weight. Some quick facts about egg whites:
- Eating eggs for breakfast is an effective weight loss strategy. Because egg whites are such an excellent source of high-quality protein without the calories, consuming egg whites in the morning will give your body the fuel it needs to burn fat and calories while building muscle. Studies like those conducted at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center found that participants eating two eggs (or equivalent in egg whites) for breakfast lost 65% more weight and felt more energetic than those who had a bagel containing the same amount of calories.
- Egg whites provide the only protein that is instantly absorbed by the body. Other high protein foods like meats and protein bars and drinks must be broken down by your body before the proteins can be absorbed. This prolonged process results in your body receiving about 1/3 of the protein when the breakdown process is completed. Eliminating this breakdown process makes egg whites a better source of 100% natural protein.

Walkin' and Talkin' Food!
Oh yeah, and he also likes to swim! Have you ever swam from Fisherman's Wharf to Alcatraz, handcuffed? Jack did it three times! At 41, 60 and 65! Not to mention, the second time he was shackled and towed a 1,000 POUND boat! How about swimming the entire length of the Golden Gate Bridge - while towing thousands of pounds of boats AND doing it UNDERWATER! And did I already say he was 61? I can barely hold my breath and get my own body across the pool twice, let alone pull boats, never take a breath and fight currants-I'm getting tired just thinking about it!
And at age 70, he pulled 70 boats with 70 people in them, while again being shackled and handcuffed for 1.5 miles from the Queen's Way Bridge in the Long Beach Harbor to the Queen Mary.
Mr. Lalanne recently spoke to the staff at Fullerton College and reiterated the need to teach kids about living a healthy life style. Want to know his secrets? He's more than happy to share with anyone who will listen!
- He subscribes to a daily breakfast of four egg whites (which is equal to 4 oz of Eggology Egg Whites) with three pieces of fruit. The whole egg, he says, is 70 calories; the egg white is 15 and holds all the protein.
- He only eats at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. with no between-meal snacking.
- "People should exercise a half hour, three times a week," LaLanne said. "And when you work out, don't take a rest."
- Also, he changes his routine every 30 days to avoid monotony.

Woo Hoo, Hugh Is That??
That is 40-year old Hugh Jackman, one of the hottest actors from Australia. Recently appearing in the epic film Australia, Hugh Jackman sat down with British online newspaper Metro to speak about horse-riding, Nicole Kidman, and the obvious - his incredible body, his exercise routine and diet plan. After Hugh outlined his intense training, he acknowledged that it is "all about eating". Part of a healthy, low carb diet, he also says that he starts the day with egg whites and eats them "every three hours after that". Smart man!
Egg whites, especially those that are pure, fresh, kosher and organic, like those from Eggology, are a smarter choice for muscle development and weight loss. Read on for more amazing facts about egg whites:
- Egg whites have no fat, no cholesterol, no trans fats, and no carbohydrates. It is a well-known fact that substituting egg whites for whole eggs will reduce the amount of fat and calories in your diet. Using egg whites in your daily cooking can also help lower your cholesterol. The cholesterol that is found in eggs resides in the yolk. One yolk contains about two-thirds of the recommended daily intake of 300 mg of cholesterol.
- Studies have shown that egg whites are an excellent source of pure natural protein. The natural proteins found in egg whites are ideal to build the supply of amino acids to build muscle. The egg white contains close to 40 types of proteins and other essential nutrients including- potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and zinc. In fact, the protein found in egg whites, called albumen, is recognized as the singular standard food scientists still strive to duplicate in their food, drinks, and meal replacement bar creations.
- Eating eggs for breakfast is an effective weight loss strategy. Because egg whites are such an excellent source of high-quality protein without the calories, consuming egg whites in the morning will give your body the fuel it needs to burn fat and calories while building muscle. Studies like those conducted at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center found that participants eating two eggs for breakfast lost 65% more weight and felt more energetic than those who had a bagel containing the same amount of calories.
